Takafumi Aikawa　/　Cloisonné Artisan

A master artisan who has spent decades in Owari cloisonné. He honed his craft at Sogo Shippo Seisakusho and joined Tamura Shippo in 2024.

His wire-setting — raising each silver line one by one to build a pattern — is exceptional in its precision. Controlling the slightest bend of a line and the space between them, he draws out the delicate expressions of creatures and plants.

He excels above all at capturing the form, the expression and the faintest movement of a living thing. His work goes beyond mere realism: with the smallest adjustments of line and color, he conveys the very presence of the creature, as if it were there before you.

He is equally accomplished at metalwork — hammering the form of a creature out of a sheet of metal and finishing it in enamel. Work that fuses metal forming with cloisonné, rather than staying within flat pattern work, is one of his defining strengths.

Having spent years doing nothing but sharpening his skill at the bench, he is one of the finest hands in Owari cloisonné. At Tamura Shippo he now builds on that foundation, at times playing freely with the medium, exploring forms of expression no one has attempted before.
